Bollywood has always been looking out for maiden destinations and unseen locations, which provide an element of surprise and suspense to the movies. These are some of the destinations which have been the all-time favourites since decades and some, which have been discovered recently but have become famous overnight.

Rohtang Pass, Himachal Pradesh

The mysterious white, snow clad rugged mountains and uneven roads of the Rohtang Pass have been the fancy of Indian Filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali and  Anurag Kashyap, who shot some scenes of their movies ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Highway’ and ‘Dev D’ on the raw tracks of this range. The destination has now become a must visit destination in the list of the travellers looking for adventure in the Himalayas.

City Palace, Udaipur

One of the most royal places in Rajasthan, the huge fort is not only the architectural marvels of the Royal heritage, but also the grand symbol of the history of the rich culture of the state. The forts are one of the favourite destinations of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director known for his grand movie sets. The palace has got featured in some of the most big budget movies like ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ and the romantic- tragedy ‘Ram- Leela.’ The famous palace now hosts large scale functions like weddings and other ceremonies.

Pangong Lake, Ladakh

Featured in one of the most iconic scenes in Rajkumar Hirani’s famous movie ‘3 Idiots,’ and in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan,’ the Pangong Lake has become one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the Ladakh valley. The mesmerising lake with its clear blue water, covered in a blanket of blue sky and  white, fluffy clouds, is gaining popularity despite of having temperatures below 0 degree Celsius during some parts of the year.

Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur

 Located in the Aravali Hills in Jaipur, this fort has been featured in the iconic Bollywood movies such as  Rang De Basanti and the Bol Bacchan. The fog covered view from the stone walls overlooking the beautiful Pink City looks breathtakingly beautiful during early mornings. One can see little houses spread across the town in all directions from the windows of the stately fort.

Gulmarg, Kashmir

One of the most beautiful towns in the Kashmir Valley, often referred as the ‘Heaven on Earth’, Gulmarg has always attracted the attention of Indian Filmmakers from the time of Shammi Kapoor till date. The Gulmarg valley has appeared in the old classics such as ‘Junglee’, ‘Janwar’, ‘Kashmir ki Kali’ and other iconic films like ‘Roja’, ‘Lamha’, ‘Yahaan’ and ‘Dil se’. The beautiful snow capped mountains and valleys have been witness to some of the most famous song and dance numbers from the Bollywood movies since ages.

Kolkata, the most famous city during the colonial era unmistakably finds its place in every period movie which depicts India before or around the Indian Independence. The most famous examples are the movies such as ‘Guru’, ‘Barfi’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Parineeta’ and so on. The list is endless. Almost every aspect of the city, right from its yellow taxis, to the Howrah bridge, the Durga pooja celebration, the idol business before the Pujo ceremony and Trams have been highlighted in these movies. The city has seen remarkable increase in the number of tourists every time this city is featured in some Bollywood movie.

This little city,  the capital of Himachal Pradesh has always been famous as a hill station, the most famous attraction being the Mall Road. Surrounded by fir and pine trees, this place has been a witness to some of the most beautiful scenes in the Bollywood movies like ‘3 Idiots,’ ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Jab We Met’ and many others. Every year during its peak tourist season in the summer months, the tourists click pictures on the mall road to experience the beauty and be a part of the place that they saw in their favourite movie.
