Teide National Park

This popular national park was created in 1954 to protect the landscape surrounding Mount Teide, the world’s third largest volcano. Standing at 3718 meters, the volcano is the tallest peak in Spain and any of the islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The volcano last erupted in 1798, and its explosion left the mark of lava in a great display of colors and shapes which is now home to a great variety of plants and wildlife. The park is a great place to teach children about unusual species of flora and fauna, as well as entertaining them with a lesson on natural disasters and geography. From the national park, the volcano can be reached via cable car. This is certainly not one for the faint-hearted, but the view from the top is simply phenomenal.
